A new quilt is warmer than an old one. Why?

A new quilt has air spaces between the layers of the woollen or cotton. These air spaces trap air and it acts as insulator(insulators are bad conductor of heat). They do not allow the body heat/temperature to escape out from body and keeps warm. however the old quilt, the layers of woolen press against each other and reduces the air spaces between them.Thats why ,less air is trapped and we do not feel warm as by new one.
